With His Band The Empty Pockets

When Al Stewart wrapped the first legs of his 80th Birthday Farewell Tour in the fall of 2025 — sold-out nights up the American East Coast, then Amsterdam, a triumphant run across the United Kingdom capped by the London Palladium, and closing nights in Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin — the goodbyes weren't finished.

California was Al's home for 45 years before his recent move to Chandler, Arizona — and the tour hasn't said goodbye there yet. In the spring of 2027, he puts that right.

Beginning April 30 in Phoenix — a short drive from his new home — Al and his longtime band The Empty Pockets will play a run of shows through California, Oregon, and Washington, concluding May 23. They'll be joined by contemporary jazz saxophonist Chase Huna, whose sax and flute work has become a signature of Al's live shows. For West Coast audiences, this is the farewell.

Says Stewart: "I can still see doing occasional shows here and there, but as for the long tours in faraway places, this is it."

Audiences can expect the songs that defined him — "Year of the Cat," "Time Passages," "On the Border," "Modern Times" — alongside selections from a catalogue that stretches from the British folk clubs of the 1960s to the present. Stewart came up in the legendary London folk scene, where he shared a flat with a young Paul Simon, played the very first Glastonbury Festival in 1970, and went on to record the Platinum albums Year of the Cat (1976) and Time Passages (1978), fusing folk-rock with vivid storytelling drawn from history.

In Al's own words: "I'm just a folk singer that is interested in history and wine that got lucky with some hit records! It's as simple as that really."
